Amanda Wakeley AW11
For next season, Amanda Wakeley imagined the perfect wardrobe for the working woman: knee-length bodycon dresses in felted wool, patent tweed, raw cut flannel, in shades of black, pebble, camel, écru.
The Amanda Wakeley woman is professional, but also sophisticated with that hint of sport luxe defined by architectural lines and graphic proportions. The luxe element was visible with featherlight stretch fur and leather added to the wool basics.
And after-work? This is when the sensual element comes out with sheer black dresses, slithers of skin, encrusted beading and gold and diamond oversized cuffs – the latter branded Amanda Wakeley exclusively for Ernest Jones.
Wearable, covetable, not pretentious. What else do you want? It is great to see women design for women, because they often know exactly what they want. I recently had this conversation about designers who create insane garments that they would never wear themselves and have a very minimalist personal style.
This is not the case here as the designer creates what she likes, as Stella McCartney or Phoebe Philo would. And Amanda herself looked truly stunning when she came for the final bow with a luxe combo of black trousers and cashmere jumper, orange suede stilettos, glowing skin, tousled blonde hair and the best accessory: a radiant smile of course!
