Salvatore Summer Dream
Isn’t the Salvatore Ferragamo Spring/ Summer 2011 Campaign just truly perfect eye candy? It makes you want to jump in the swimming pool with a tan, a lover and a fabulous maxidress – which is to me the mere definition of the S/S Ad Campaign.
Yet at the same time, it manages to be elegant, understated, and use my favourite colour of all – navy blue. How daring for summer, how perfect teamed with white and how gorgeous on summer skin.
I must admit I have been a little disappointed with most of the campaigns this season.. too colourful, too overdone, too much lurex eveningwear, too much studio photography.
Whereas this one to me sells a lifestyle rather than a brand. On the other visuals, superstar Daria Werbowy wears a sensual tan-coloured crochet dress, or an effortless white shirt with sunglasses, brown leather sandals and a natural leather purse. Everything about it is so desirable.
More than that, she is also carrying a book, and reading the FT. She has a perfect tan, but no visible makeup. This is exactly what most women want to be like in summer. A natural beauty, with a brain too. Not a drag-queen stuck in a leopard or oversized striped print jersey, with a studded leather jacket, layers of glitters on their eyelids and fluoro accessories – although that appears to be what the March issues of most glossies are promoting at the moment.
Or maybe it is just me. But the classic jet-set on a yacht in the Mediterranean with a hint of preppiness always wins me over. And isn’t summer the one time when you can finally remove all that makeup and run in the sand with your sandals in your hand?
Summer rant in February, you will tell me. Fashion is just a long tease, constant anticipation.
